Site Evaluation

My site evaluations were group sessions, conducted remotely. We discussed some of the common drugs used in the emergency department, including their indications and a heavier focus on their mechanisms of action. I presented cases on ovarian cysts, Bartholin abscess, and hemorrhagic cystitis. My site evaluator strengthened my skills for coming up with differentials for hematuria and discussed when it would be appropriate to biopsy lesions for suspicion of malignancy in gynecologic complaints. Additionally, I was given feedback on which labs are actually necessary versus which labs seem to be drawn routinely in the ER for each patient. For example, a patient with an abscess warranting an I&D does not necessarily need labs drawn. I find group sessions to be productive because we can have discussions and see strengths and weaknesses of each others’ H&Ps.
