Site Evaluation

My site evaluations were conducted remotely. My case presentation was different during these evaluations as compared to other evaluations as we were expected to present the pertinent aspects of the HPI and physical. My site evaluator strengthened my ability to come up with psychiatric differences and explained the nuances of the differences of each disorder such as schizophreniform vs schizoaffective vs schizophrenia. These differences are easier to see in clinical practice and within the context of a patient, rather than trying to memorize them. Additionally, we spoke about other workups that should be initiated in each of my patients for their general care, as in the psychiatry ER, the patients are simply stabilized and their disposition is established. This also helped me understand the reason for using certain drugs like antipsychotics in the emergency setting. I presented a journal article on the use of Gabapentin for alcohol use disorder. Overall, I learned a lot from these site evaluations.
